This is a bit disturbing.

Leila looks like a useful tool? you can already see tax assessor values at your city tax collectors website.. why is it disturbing?
Eric The ease of data gathering is the scary part. The fact that I can recreationally look into how much you paid for your house, and how much the person before paid, and how many square feet, bedrooms, etc it has, is somewhat alarming.
Larry Agreed. I think this should be restricted by some license of some sort. Certified Realtor's or CPA comes to mind almost immediately and I'm sure there are other meaningful applications. But arbitrary access to that kind of info will only lead to bad things.
Leila But you can already easily get some of that information from the tax collector's website... square footage and bedrooms is hardly something i think is protected?
Leila if you look on the website it says they get the info from public records... sure it's easier than looking at a few different websites, but i was able to get this sort of info when i was looking for houses.
Eric The issue is that the ~ease~ of correlating records leads to a "database nation". Whether or not that's "scary" likely depends on how much dystopian sci-fi you read. :-)
Dave And this is coming from the guy with his cell phone number and a map to his home on his website.
